CALLING ALL RIVER GUARDIANS!
Join Siren Duty with the Mermaid Society of Texas!
Do you love the San Marcos River? Want to help protect this magical, living treasure? Now’s your chance to make a SPLASH this summer!
The Mermaid Society is seeking volunteers to become Advocates and Ambassadors of the San Marcos River by signing up for Siren Duty — a powerful way to educate and inspire river visitors to Love the River Like a Local!
What is Siren Duty?
Sirens are mermaids on land — friendly, welcoming stewards who help inform tubers and swimmers about how to keep our river clean and beautiful.
As a Siren, you’ll:
Greet visitors with a smile and river-loving spirit
Remind them to use the litter bags provided on their Lions Club tubes
Educate them about the City’s Reuse at the River Ordinance (no cans or plastic in the water!)
Share the story of the endangered and sacred Texas Wild Rice
Represent the Mermaid Capital of Texas with pride and purpose!
When?
Siren Duty runs Memorial Weekend – August 31st
Shifts are just 3 hours
Available Monday through Sunday
Where?
We aim to be present at Rio Vista and Lions Tube Rental.
Whether you join us for one day or all summer, your time helps protect one of Texas’ most precious ecosystems.
Ready to be a land mermaid (or merman!)?
Sign up today and become a voice for the river.
Together, let’s make a difference — one visitor, one shift, one ripple at a time.
Ask us how to join a community river clean-up or be a part of our Siren Duty Team!
